Denzel Hayes Washington Jr. is an American Actor, producer and director. Washington, was born on December 28, 1954. He has won so many accolades, including, a Tony Award, two Academy Awards, 3 Golden Globe Awards and two Silver Bears.
He is the recipient of the Cecil B. DeMille Lifetime Achievement Award in year 2016, and in 2020, The New York Times mentioned him the biggest Actor of the 21st Era. Washington won the Presidential Medal of Freedom in year 2022.
He began his career in theatre, acting in performance Off- Broadway. His first popular drama series St. freedom in 1987, and Glory in 1989, winning the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for the lattermost. He made himself as a main Actor, with his portrayals in Malcom X in 1992, The Pelican Brief in 1993, Philadelphia in 1993, The Hurricane in 1999, and Remember The Titans in 2000.
He has received the Academy Award for Best Actor for his character as a corrupt police in the crime thriller Training Day in 2001. Further acclaim came for starring in American Gangster in 2007, Flight in 2012, Roman J. He, made his screen debut in 1977, for TV film Wilma, Which was a documentary on sprinter Wilma Rudolph, and made his debut in Hollywood in, 1981,by “Carbon Copy”. He shared a 1982 various ensemble act Obie Award for playing Private First Class Melvin Peterson in the Off Broadway Negro Ensemble Company production A Soldier’s Play which came on November 20, 1981.
In June 25,1983, Washington married to Paulette Pearson, they met on the set of, TV film Wilma. They shared 4 children: John David, born on July 28, 1984, also an actor and a ex football player, Katia born on November 27, 1986, who graduated from Yale University with a Bachelor of arts on 2010, and twins Olivia and Malcolm born on April 10, 1991.Malcolm completed his graduation from University of Pennsylvania with a degree in film studios, and Olivia played a role in Lee Daniel’s movie The Butter . The duo renewed their wedding promises in South Africa with Desmond Tutu officiating.
He, has served as the national spokesperson for Boyz and Girls Clubs of America since 1993, he starred as a public service announcements and awareness campaign for the organization. Including, he has served as a board member for Boyz and girls clubs of America since 1995.
Due to his constant support and philanthropic work a New York city elementary school, decided to officially name their school after Washington.
In the amid of 2004, he attended the Brooke Army Medical Centre at Fort Sam Houston, where he attended a Purple Heart ceremony, presenting medals to 3 army soldiers recovering from injuries they have got while stationed in Iraq.
Washington participated the fort’s Fisher House facilities, and after knowing that it had exceeded it’s capacity, he made a substantial donation to the Fisher House foundation, this targets on building and providing houses for military personnel and their families free of cost at the time, they got medical care as well.
He, is a very kind hearted man he donated other charities contributions including US$1 Million to Nelson Mandela’s Children’s Fund in year 1995 and US $ 1 million to Wiley College to support the college’s debate group.He has won the Honorary doctorate from his alma mater, Fordham University on May 18, 1991, for having “surprisingly succeed in exploring the core of his multifaceted talent”. In 2011, he donated US $ 2 million to Fordham for an endowed chair of the theatre department, also donated US $ 250,000 to build a theatre scholarship at school.
Washington also earned an honorary doctorate of humanities from Morehouse college on May 20, 2007, and On May 16, 2011, he recieved, the honorary doctorate of arts degree by the University of Pennsylvania.
The White House said that, Washington would be awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom, On July 1, 2022. US Army made him the 2021, Honorary Sergeant Major of the Army at the Annual Association of the US Army conference for his help and support with the Fisher House Foundation, On October 11, 2021.
