OCTAVIA SPENCER’S EARLY LIFE…

Octavia Lenora Spencer is an American actress and producer. She was born on May 25, 1970. She has received numerous accolades, additionally an Academy Award, a British Academy Film Award, and a Golden Globe Award, and is the first black actress to won two consecutive Oscar nominations.

She started her career  in the 1996 drama A TIME TO KILL. After so many years of numerous, characters in movie and television, her breakthrough came in 2011, when she portrayed a maid character in 1960s America in the drama, THE HELP, for which she won many accolades including the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress.

Spencer played the main character in the APPLE TV+ drama series TRUTH BE TOLD in 2019 to 2023, and she received a nomination for the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actress for her character of Madam C. J. Walker in the Netflix limited series Self Made in 2020.

As an writer, she created the children’s book series Randi Rhodes, Ninja Detective. Spencer launched 2- Books in the series, titled The Case of the Time-Capsule Bandit in 2013, and the Sweetest Heist in History in year 2015. She was born in Montgomery, Alabama, and has 6 siblings, including sisters Rosa and Areka Spencer.

Her mom, Dellsena Spencer in 1945-1988, she worked as a maid. Her dad died when she was just 13 years old. She studied at Auburn University at Montgomery, and completed her graduation from Auburn University, where she majored in English with two minor in Journalism and theatre. She has Dyslexia. Auburn alumna Spencer bought food for students during finals, in December 2021 and 2022.

She worked on the set of THE LONG WALK HOME as an intern. A film starring Whoopi Goldberg. Spencer, moved to LA, in 1997, on the suggestion of her friend, Tate Taylor, the future director of, The Help, in which Spencer would after celebrity. Spencer’S first portrayal as a nurse in Joel Schumacher’s A Time To Kill. She was really choosen to work on casting, but questioned Schumacher if she could audition for a part.

It was her first and only play, as she once said, she suffers from what she called , intense stage fright. After some times, she appeared in opposite Allison Janney in Tate Taylor’s short feature Chicken Party.  

Her brief appearance in “SEVEN POUNDS” as, Kate Rosario Dawson’s house care nurse, garnered her high praise and media attention in 2008. Entertainment Weekly listed her, as among its “25 Funniest Actresses in Hollywood” in 2009. She appeared in Rob Zombie’s Halloween ll in 2019.

Spencer played the portrayal in the American remake of the Danish Classic Love at First Hiccup, opposite Scout Taylor-Compton. Spencer appeared in the feature movie Herpes Boy, also with Best Grant, Ahna O’Reilly and Byron Lane. She gave the voice to Minny on the audio version of novel The Help, by Kathryn Stockett.

After that year, her short film The Captain was honored by the CICFF as a finalist for the REEL poetry Award.

In August 2010, she joined Viola Davis, Emma Stone and Bryce Dallas Howard in the period drama movie The Help, and adaptation of the novel of the exact name. She portrayed the feisty and unflappable maid Minny Jackson. The movie was written, produced and Directed by Tate Taylor, and produced by Brunson Green, Chris Columbus, Michael Barnathan, and Mark Radcliffe.

Spencer won 2012, Golden Globe Award for Best Supporting Actress— Motion Picture for her work in The Help.

In 2013, she played a character with Michael B. Jordan in Fruitvale Station, a film chronicling the last day of Oscar Grant, who was murdered at a Bay Area Rapid Transit station in 2009. It was reported in September 2013, that, she would unite again with, The Help director Taylor in the biography on vocalist, James Brown Get On Up, opposite her The Help co-star Viola Davis. Movie was released in 2014.

She executive produced and appeared as Madam C. J. In the Netflix biographical limited series Self Made, the movie was aired on March 20, 2020. For her performance in the drama, she received a nomination for the Primetime Emmy Award for outstanding lead actress in a limited series or movie.
